Cub Scouts is a fun, family-centered program for children in Kindergarten through 5th grade. Scouts participate in hands-on activities, outdoor adventures, community service, and leadership-building experiences while learning important life skills and making lifelong friendships.
Pack 42 welcomes boys and girls in grades K–5 from Quincy and surrounding communities. Families of all backgrounds and experience levels are encouraged to join.
We offer year-round activities including:
Pinewood Derby races
Camping trips
Hiking adventures
Rocket launches
Fishing events
Community service projects
Parades and local events
STEM and nature activities
Pack meetings and den meetings
Our goal is to keep Scouting fun, active, and engaging for the entire family.
The Pack typically meets once per month for a large group Pack Meeting. Individual dens (organized by grade level) meet 1–4 times per month depending on age and planned activities. We also host optional hikes, service projects, and family events throughout the year.
Yes! Cub Scouts is a family program, and parent involvement is strongly encouraged. Parents help support meetings, attend activities, volunteer during events, and share in the Scouting experience alongside their child.
For Lion and Tiger Scouts (Kindergarten and 1st grade), an adult partner attends all meetings and activities with their Scout.
Not at all! Many of our families are completely new to Scouting when they join. Pack leaders and experienced families are happy to help new Scouts learn the ropes.
New Scouts typically need:
A Cub Scout uniform
Scout handbook
Annual registration/dues
Comfortable outdoor clothing for activities and hikes
Pack 42 helps guide families through the process and will provide information after registration.
Pack dues help cover many program expenses, including:
National BSA registration and insurance
Advancement awards and badges
Pack activities and supplies
Pinewood Derby kits
Neckerchiefs and slides
Uniform patches and insignia
Pack t-shirt
Additional optional events may have separate costs depending on the activity.
No. Camping opportunities are available throughout the year, but participation is optional. We encourage families to try camping because it’s one of the most memorable parts of Scouting, but families can participate at their own comfort level.
Yes. Safety is a top priority in Scouting. All registered leaders complete youth protection and safety training, and Pack 42 follows all Boy Scouts of America safety guidelines, including two-deep leadership requirements at activities and meetings.
Cub Scouts earn “adventures” and rank advancements by participating in activities, learning skills, completing projects, and trying new experiences. Advancement is designed to be age-appropriate, hands-on, and fun.
Many Pack activities are family-friendly, and siblings are often welcome to attend. Some events may have age restrictions or additional fees, so families should check event details beforehand.
Families can join by filling out the interest form or contacting Pack leadership through via email. We’re always happy to answer questions and help new families get started.
Pack 42 focuses on building confidence, friendships, leadership, and community through fun and meaningful experiences. We believe Scouting should be welcoming, adventurous, inclusive, and memorable for the whole family.
